Good Faith Estimate

The following information comes from the No Surprises Act (NSA). This federal law protects patients under individual and group health plans from receiving high, unexpected medical bills:

You’re entitled to a “Good Faith Estimate”, an explantation of how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

      • A Good Faith Estimate provides the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, including psychotherapy services.
      • You’re able to ask your provider for an estimate in writing before you schedule any service.
      • If you receive a bill that is more than $400 above your estimate, you can dispute the bill.
      • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your estimate.
